Fed­er­a­tion cel­e­bra­tions in Mul­wala

Aus­tralia Day Awards 2019 for the Fed­er­a­tion Coun­cil area will be cel­e­brated in Mul­wala on Satur­day, Jan­uary 26. Coun­cil will seek Ex­pres­sions of In­ter­est from com­mu­nity groups or or­gan­i­sa­tions to as­sist coun­cil with the big event.

The of­fi­cial func­tion will in­clude a wel­come ad­dress, wel­come to coun­try, cit­i­zen­ship cer­e­monies, award pre­sen­ta­tions, am­bas­sador guest speaker, flag rais­ing cer­e­mony and sing­ing of the Na­tional An­them.

“The suc­cess­ful com­mu­nity group or or­gan­i­sa­tion will work with coun­cil to de­liver an event that is fam­ily-friendly, in­clu­sive and pro­vides an op­por­tu­nity for the com­mu­nity to come to­gether and cel­e­brate the oc­ca­sion,” coun­cil’s di­rec­tor cor­po­rate and com­mu­nity ser­vices Kristy Kay said at coun­cil’s monthly meet­ing on Au­gust 21.

Coun­cil is sound­ing out in­ter­ested par­ties from Au­gust 22 to Septem­ber 10 and will seek nom­i­na­tions for Aus­tralia Day Awards from Oc­to­ber 15 to De­cem­ber 3.

Coun­cil­lors David Lon­g­ley (from How­long), Shaun Whitechurch and Norm Wales (Corowa), and Bron­wyn Thomas from Mul­wala will form part of the judg­ing panel, along with a past award win­ner, the Gen­eral Man­ager and a staff mem­ber.

“The panel will con­sider the level of con­tri­bu­tion made to the well­be­ing of a com­mu­nity in the ar­eas of lead­er­ship, vol­un­teerism, sport­ing, arts and cul­tural, en­vi­ron­men­tal or busi­ness en­deav­ours,” Ms Kay said.

There are six cat­e­gories of Fed­er­a­tion Coun­cil Awards: Cit­i­zen of the Year, Young Cit­i­zen of the Year, Com­mu­nity Event of the Year, Com­mu­nity Project of the Year, Lo­cal Achiever Awards, School Achiever Awards.

Schools within the Fed­er­a­tion Coun­cil area will be in­vited to nom­i­nate two stu­dents who have been out­stand­ing achiev­ers in 2018 in ei­ther their aca­demic of sport­ing fields.

Cr Norm Wales de­scribed the Aus­tralia Day event as “very im­por­tant for our com­mu­nity”. “Let’s hope we get plenty of nom­i­na­tions,” he added.

Mul­wala is look­ing for­ward to host­ing the event ac­cord­ing to Cr Thomas who sug­gested coun­cil con­duct in­for­ma­tion ses­sions in Mul­wala “so ev­ery­one can have more im­por­tance and make con­tact with Sav­er­nake who host a break­fast”.

She urged peo­ple com­ing from the north­ern part of Fed­er­a­tion Coun­cil to call into Sav­er­nake for break­fast on route to Mul­wala.

The of­fi­cial Aus­tralia Day Awards func­tion for the Fed­er­a­tion Coun­cil area will be cel­e­brated in Mul­wala in 2019.
