Dou­ble glory for New Nor­folk bowlers

NEW Nor­folk lawn bowlers en­joyed great suc­cess last week­end when their Di­vi­sion 3 and 4 sides were both succ­sse­ful in their re­spec­tive grand fi­nals, bring­ing home dual pre­mier­ships to the proud club.

The suc­cess­ful sides will now go on to rep­re­sent the South in the State Pen­nant fi­nals in Ho­bart this week­end.

Div 3 played against Beltana at Sandy Bay, who they had lost to the pre­vi­ous week in the sec­ond semi­fi­nal, re­vers­ing the re­sult to win ( 81-65 ) with 2 and 1/2 rinks to 1 and 1/2.

The team of Ge­orge Men­zie (S), Paul Smith, Ian Mad­dox, and Ron Walsh, in his 50th year of bowls, opened up a match win­ning lead 11-1 by six ends, and win­ning 14 of 21 ends on the way to 24-13 vic­tory.

While John Catt (S), Chris Smith, Michael Cook and Clive Gree­nough, trailed 5-8 at six ends, be­fore win­ning six ends in a row to move to 17-8 at 12 ends, and con­trol­ling the game from there to win 22-16.

Tim Mor­gan (S), Grant Trif­fitt, Larry Hill, Brett Nunn, slipped to 0-10 by 4 ends, and trailed 5-15 at 10, and 9-19 at 15,then a dom­i­nant per­for­mance over the last 6 ends saw them fight back to draw at 20-20.

Mick Quinn (S), Neville Wigg, David Briggs, Bricky Eiszele, won 11 of 21 ends in a tight game, 3-5 at 5 ends,7-8 at 10,11-10 at 15, and fin­ish­ing 15-16

PRE­MIERS: New Nor­folk’s suc­cess­ful Di­vi­sion 4 lawn bowls team was one of two sides from the lo­cal club to win grand fi­nals at the week­end.
