Governor presents medals for service
TWO Derwent Valley residents who were honoured earlier this year in the Queen’s Birthday honours have received their awards.
Former mayor Tony Nicholson and the first female councillor in the region, the late Dorothy Robinson, were awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) by Governor Kate Warner at a reception at Government House last Friday.
Mrs Robinson’s son Greg accepted the award on behalf of his mother, who died last year aged 85.
Two locals also are receiving Conspicuous Service Medals. Navy Lieutenant Commander Mark Wilson is awarded his in Sydney tomorrow while Warrant Officer Class One Jason Jarvis, still serving in Afghanistan, receives his on his return.
