New town park still months away

The Gazette (Derwent Valley) - - NEWS -

OPENING of the new park at the site of the former Banjo’s Bakery in central New Norfolk has been delayed again.

There had been plans for the park to be ready by May, before wet weather delayed the project indefinitely.

Negotiations between the Derwent Valley Council and the site owners had been continuing over the issue of insurance, with the council last week announcing that it anticipated having control of the site by December.

An information brochure handed to local businesses last week said the council would remove the fence once it took over the site and would contribute $10,000 to improving the area to be used by the public for up to 10 years.

The high profile site at the corner of Burnett St and High St has been empty since a fire ripped through the old Banjo’s more than three years ago.

Banjo’s then moved to a new site.
