UP and com­ing New Nor­folk swim­mer Kate Denholm is tak­ing on some of Aus­tralia’s best this week as she sets her sights high for a long ca­reer in the sport.

The 15-year-old is swim­ming in the 100m breas­troke at the Na­tional Age Swim­ming Cham­pi­onships in Ade­laide today.

The Col­le­giate school­girl is also rep­re­sent­ing Tas­ma­nia in the un­der 18’s 4x100 re­lay at the Ge­orgina Hope Aus­tralian Age Cham­pi­onships held at the Ade­laide Aquatic Cen­ter.

Kate said it was a big achieve­ment “just to get to the na­tion­als”.

“It’s a chance to swim with other com­peti­tors from all over Aus­tralia,’’ she said.

Kate had to beat the qual­i­fy­ing time of un­der 1.20 min­utes to com­pete in the breas­troke event.

She has been train­ing for three years which in­cludes five to six days a week with the Ho­bart Aquatic Swim Club at the Doone Kennedy Ho­bart Aquatic Cen­tre.

Kate’s dad Andrew Denholm will be cheer­ing on his daugh­ter on from the stands.
