SMART NEW STRIP
SUPPORTERS of the New Norfolk Junior Football Club are in for a surprise this year as the club gets ready to show off a brand new guernsey ahead of the 2016 season.
Breaking away from the traditional St Kilda style strip, the stunning new guernsey showcases a white eagle blending into the red and black colours of the club.
Director of fundraising for the New Norfolk Junior Football Club Allison Morgan said she believed it was the first time the club had introduced a new guernsey of this kind.
“It is believed this is the first time the club, albeit the junior club, has moved away from the traditional St Kilda type striped playing jumper,” she said. “The older jumpers were starting to show wear, and the new design was just a brainwave to incorporate the AFL West Coast Eagles with our colours. The jumpers are being used through [the] junior club with all but two teams wearing them this season [and] we are hoping to have all teams in the new strip by next season.”
In handing out the new guernsey’s at last weeks training, New Norfolk Under 11 Red’s coach Bradley Chaplin inspired the boys and one girl for the season ahead.
“These tops are showing you are representing your club, they are to be worn with pride as they represent our unity as a team,” he said.
The first game of the southern Tasmania Junior Football Season begins on Sunday. Boys or girls wishing to play for New Norfolk, from under 8s through to under 16s, can call David Banks on 0400 221 389 for information.
