Arts stalwart Bishop to be farewelled
THE life of Tasmanian-born ballet dancer and arts administrator Laurence Bishop will be celebrated at a service in New Norfolk tomorrow.
Born at National Park in 1930, Mr Bishop was educated at Hobart High School and first took an interest in ballet when performing in a local amateur theatre production.
He went on to train with great Czech choreographer Edouard Borovansky in Melbourne.
He was assistant artistic director with the West Australian Ballet before joining Ballet Victoria in 1972.
Mr Bishop died on March 20. He was 86. A service will be held at St Matthew’s Anglican Church in New Norfolk from 2pm tomorrow.
