Old footy friends reunited
MORE than 200 people converged on New Norfolk to celebrate the Derwent Valley Football Reunion at Boyer Oval on Saturday.
Past players from current and now-defunct clubs came together to watch New Norfolk take on the Hobart Tigers and enjoy a barbecue and refreshments.
While the game was a blowout on the scoreboard in favour of New Norfolk, the real entertainment for many was watching the interactions on the sidelines.
Organiser Kerry Wilton said any lingering rivalry between clubs had long since gone and there was nothing but smiles on the day, with plenty of old friendships renewed.
“I actually met a couple of blokes I hadn’t seen since I left school — that was in the ’70s,” Mr Wilton said.
He said he wasn’t the only one who enjoyed a great day out.
“Everyone was rapt, they were very pleased that we had it,” he said.
The day was such a success talks have already been held about making the reunion an annual event, or holding one every five years.
