PREPARATIONS are in full swing for the New Norfolk Old Scholars Hockey Club’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
Past and present players, coaches, office bearers, patrons and supporters are invited to the anniversary reunion, which will take place at the New Norfolk Football Club rooms next weekend.
An RSVP for catering purposes is required by the end of today.
The club was formed in 1967, and has had great success over the years, peaking in 1997 when eight teams took to the field in the club’s orange and brown colours.
The sole remaining team competes on Sundays in Third Grade, and current player Natalie Browning said while the team enjoyed the social side of the game, they were still “quite competitive”.
Mrs Browning, who has played more than 500 games for the club, is looking forward to catching up with current and former team-mates.
“That will be the really good part, because you do really bond with people when you play for years and years,” Mrs Browning said.
She hopes that the club can entice a few players of yesteryear back.
“We are hoping that we can recruit a few, because there are some retirements happening this year,” Mrs Browning said.
The reunion will be held at the New Norfolk Football Club rooms on August 26.
Organisers are looking for old photos, uniforms, trophies and Gazette clippings to share on the night.
