TAI CHI TIME
TEN weeks of calming the mind and body are on offer at the Derwent Valley PCYC as tai chi is added to the list of activities on offer.
Glenorchy-based instructor Bill Pearson recently returned from the International Tai Chi Health Exchange in Beijing, where he was invited to demonstrate and participate in a number of exhibitions.
Mr Pearson said it all began when he attended the Australia China Friendship Society annual general meeting in Hobart last year.
He met Hong Jie, the director of the Beijing People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, who later invited him to China.
“I was the only Australian at the event so it’s helping to establish a very good relationship,” with the society, Mr Pearson said.
He was one of 87 representatives from 11 countries in attendance.
Mr Pearson, who has organised tai chi classes at Risdon Prison and as therapy for multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease patients, won the Excellent Performance Award during his trip.
Tai chi classes will be on offer every Thursday from 121pm at the Derwent Valley PCYC.
