Vinnies puts out call for helpers

The Gazette (Derwent Valley) - - NEWS -

CHARITABLE organisations have been helping the community for years but now the St Vincent de Paul Society is the one in need.

As National Op Shop Week kicks off, Vinnies is requesting volunteers to work in a variety of duties from shopfront to donation bins.

Southern retail manager Maree Cole said there were a range of reasons for the drop in staff numbers, but it put more pressure on those who stay.

“People are retiring later in life and want more choice in activities to spend their time on,” Mrs Cole said.

Among these ventures include travelling, moving interstate and spending more time with family.

“Saturdays are in especially high demand but volunteers are welcome any time.

“We need people in the warehouses, men and women. Anyone who can [volunteer] would be greatly appreciated.”

National Op Shop Week runs until September 2.
