PAST and present members of the Derwent Valley Garden Club celebrated its 20th anniversary with a high tea at Redlands.

President Liz Fraser said about 50 people turned up to celebrate the anniversary.

“It was great, and everyone loved catching up with others,” Mrs Fraser said.

“Some of the original members arrived and everyone was delighted.

“The weather was lovely, and Redlands gardens were a picture.”

Derwent Valley councillor Paul Belcher handed life membership to Colin and Wendy Jones, and Mavis Beattie on the day.

The club does a lot of work for the community, including the maintenance of the Stephen St cemetery, and it aims to help put a vegetable garden into every school in the region.

A group of 12 members left for New Zealand yesterday to take in some of the country’s best gardens.

The club is holding its annual fundraiser, Open Gardens in the Valley, late next month.
