Car bombing scare
TASMANIA’S bomb squad was called to a rural property in the Derwent Valley after allegations of explosives being placed in a car.
Police and the specialist Bomb Response Group descended on the property outside New Norfolk in Glenora Rd on Friday.
The allegation of an explosive device in the vehicle proved to be false. But Inspector George Cretu said police were not taking any chances.
“It came on the end of a family dispute and a person mentioned there was gelignite in a car, so we had to have the car cleared, but there wasn’t anything there,” he said.
A man was arrested in relation to the incident.
