Equestrian centre opens

The Gazette (Derwent Valley) - - NEWS - SHAUN McMANUS

DERWENT Pony Club president Jo Jones says the new $120,000 clubroom at the Kensington Park Equestrian Centre in New Norfolk is among the best in Tasmania.

The clubroom, to be used by the Derwent Pony Club and the Derwent Valley Horse Riders, was officially opened on Saturday.

“The sun was shining and lots of our sponsors were there, all our members from both clubs, and parents, grandparents, and partners,” Mrs Jones said.

The clubroom was more than a year in the making and Mrs Jones said there had been a “massive amount” of community support to help make the facilities a reality.

“Having facilities for catering [with] power and plumbing [will] enable us to grow and to fundraise more effectively by holding competitions where riders from all over the state can come to our grounds,” she said.

“Previously we only had a shed with a gravel floor.

“Altogether, it’s been a $120,000 project from beginning to end.”

Mrs Jones was thrilled with the end product, which she says will enable the Derwent Pony Club to host riding camps and provide a space for indoor theory lessons during periods of bad weather.

“It’s absolutely amazing, we feel very fortunate that the end product is such high quality, it far exceeds any expectations that we had,” Mrs Jones said.

“All the guests that came that know the Tasmanian riding community were blown away and said we’ve probably got the best clubroom facilities in the state.

“We feel very fortunate, but also very proud of all the efforts that have gone into getting it to where it is.”
