High times for market

The Gazette (Derwent Valley) - - NEWS -

THE first New Norfolk Market in High St on Saturday has been deemed a success despite wet weather causing a slow start.

Organiser John Blegg said a couple of stallholders dropped out because of the weather but others were there waiting for him at 5.30am, ready to set up.

“It was really good to see High St busy again and the comments were really positive with people looking forward to it and people coming back,” he said.

Mr Blegg said the only complaint was that it was hard to find parking in the area.

“As soon as the sun came out, people came from everywhere and between 10 and 12 the street was full.”

“If it brings vibrancy back into High St, hopefully it will attract new small businesses to open up,” Derwent Valley Mayor Martyn Evans said.

Mr Blegg expected 15-20 more stall holders at this weekend’s market.

“With word of mouth, we’re expecting a really good turn out over summer.”
