Plaza plan approved by council
A DEVELOPMENT application for the conversion of the old New Norfolk Woolworths supermarket into three smaller shops has been approved by the Derwent Valley Council.
The building on the corner of Charles and George streets has been vacant since Woolworths moved to its new location in 2015.
Acting on behalf of SFO Property Pty Ltd, architects Michael Cooper and Associates applied for a partial demolition, extensions and alterations, partial change of use, and signage at the former supermarket.
The “New Norfolk Plaza” proposal, which was approved by council on Monday, includes a Shiploads discount store, a new Cellarbrations bottle shop, and a Zap gym.
Derwent Valley Mayor Martyn Evans welcomed the proposal.
“I think it’s great,” Cr Evans said. “[It will bring] more employment opportunities, obviously jobs and training for young people, but [also] services and things for people to actually go to.”
