Death ruling in October
A HOBART magistrate will hand down his decision in October on the 2015 death of a Derwent Valley cherry orchard worker.
Reid Fruits, one of Australia’s biggest cherry producers, has pleaded not guilty to failing to comply with its health and safety duty in the case of a worker who was killed by a tractor in 2015.
Retbe Chide Negga, 50, was crushed by a tractor on January 9, 2015, at an orchard at Plenty. Mr Negga died in hospital.
Magistrate Reg Marron heard evidence from Reid Fruits workers and managers.
Mr Marron gave the prosecution until September 10 to make submissions and the defence until September 14 to reply.
He will hand down his decision on October 8.
