Driver flees after cyclist hit

The Gazette (Derwent Valley) - - NEWS -

A DRIVER fled the scene after knocking a cyclist to the ground in a New Norfolk street last week.

New Norfolk resident Nigel Hills said he was riding his pedal-assisted bike around the corner of Burnett and George streets about midday last Wednesday when a driver in a gold Mercedes collided with him.

Mr Hills said he wasn’t badly hurt, other than receiving a few minor cuts and bruises, but said he was disappointed the driver didn’t stop.

“I was left lying there in the middle of the road and by the time I stood up the driver waved to me as he drove off,” Mr Hills said.

“To be shown no concern for the injuries I could have had was pretty disappointing.

“I felt like I was treated like an animal and could barely walk the next day.”

Mr Hills said he reported the incident to police.
