BUTTER UP THE FAMILY WITH THIS VERSATILE PRESERVE, A REMAKE OF A RECIPE FROM NAN’S KITCHEN
This apple butter is a variation of a recipe I found in Gran’s collection and one that I have adapted to make use of the slow cooker that perhaps, like mine, rarely gets a run, despite best intentions. Apple butter is a versatile preserve, and if you don’t have a slow cooker, it can be made just as easily on the stove.
I prefer to use green apples as a rule but these can be substituted with whatever type of apple you like. This recipe makes three jars. If you are not bottling the butter, it can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for a few weeks.
