SET UP BY A MUTUAL FRIEND, SPARKS WERE SOON FLYING FOR THESE KINDRED SPIRITS

The Gold Coast Bulletin - Gold Coast Eye - - EYE CONTENTS - KRISTA & CHRIS

THE COUPLE: Krista Grono and Chris Katen THE LOVE STORY: The Mudgeeraba couple met on a blind date set up by a mutual friend. “We received the same message from that friend who thought we’d get along really well as we had similar interests in long-distance running,” Krista says. “One week later we had lunch at Lola’s Restaurant. There was an instant feeling of ease between us and we talked for hours.” Chris went on to pop the question during a weekend away at Maleny on the Sunshine Coast. “On the way up we stopped for a hike in the Glass House Mountains. Chris shakily got down on one knee and proposed.” THE BIG DAY: April 29 in Coffs Harbour, with a garden ceremony overlooking the beach followed by a cocktail reception. “We wanted the location to reflect us. Aanuka Beach Resort, with its lush gardens, rainforest feel and a beachside backdrop, was the perfect setting. If we could do it all again tomorrow, we would – the day was perfect – but if we had to choose one favourite moment it would have to be saying our vows and exchanging rings.” Krista’s grandma and Chris’s grandfather witnessed signing the wedding certificates. “They both had long-lasting marriages of more than 50 years and they represent, to us, true love.” THE SOUNDTRACK: The couple walked down the aisle to Chantel Kreviazuk’s Feels Like Home and had their first dance to Ed Sheeran’s How Would You Feel. “Chris surprised me by getting dance lessons – I had no idea,” Krista says. THE DRESS: Pronovias, made in Barcelona. “I was wanting something quite simple and my mum picked this dress. When I tried it on I fell in love. It had elegant details from the figure-hugging bodice to the ruffled skirt and an open, low back.”
