WE ARE GOLD COAST

THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME. THREE LOCALS WEIGH IN ON WHAT THEY LOVE ABOUT OUR CITY

The Gold Coast Bulletin - Gold Coast Eye - - EYE | INFORMER -

DAMIEN HOL LE Y Main Beach What’s your best breakfast tip?

Spendelove Cafe at the Ferry Rd Markets during the week and Manolas Bros at Isle of Capri on weekends. Both have great coffee and the service is always great. Funnily enough, I go for the healthy choice breakfast on the weekends.

We’ve got some top local markets ... what’s on your shopping list?

Ferry Rd Markets in Southport. They have the best range of fresh produce, a great fishmonger and awesome bakery.

Where do you go for a workout?

Most mornings I leave my place and head along the esplanade into Surfers Paradise for a long walk. You just cannot beat the sunrises over the ocean. Best way to start the day!

Your favourite place to see live music?

I haven’t been to a gig for a while. I spent a lot of my youth at the Playroom watching great bands. What a shame we don’t have that institution anymore.

Where do you take visitors when you want to show off the Gold Coast?

The beaches are a must. The Fish House at Burleigh or Omeros Bros at Marina Mirage for a long lunch overlooking the water.

KYRA CRAFT Currumbin Waters What’s the best thing about spring on the Gold Coast?

The ocean gets a little warmer, so we’re back in the water. The days are getting longer, the beach isn’t too busy and the whale watching is awesome.

Which cafe has the friendliest staff?

Neighbourhood at Currumbin ticks all the boxes – friendly staff, great coffee, yummy food and a fun play area for the kids.

The best place to celebrate a special occasion?

Lunch at Mavis’s Kitchen near Mt Warning – it’s so peaceful out there. For dinner, Jimmy Wah’s in Burleigh is fun, with great food and delicious cocktails. However, nothing beats a glass of wine while watching the ocean at Currumbin Alley.

What does your perfect Gold Coast weekend plan look like?

PBC Farmers Markets on a Saturday morning for coffee and a gozleme. Several trips to the beach are a must, including a trip to the Palm Beach dog beach with our pooch. Catching up with family and friends for a barbecue with a bonfire. And a Sunday drive down to Brunswick Heads to grab a “Yami” falafel pocket for lunch.

STEVIE Z Surfers Paradise What’s your best breakfast tip?

Stairwell Coffee Surfers Paradise. Coffee is the first meal of the day and they have some amazing jaffles and bagels. If I feel like leaving Surfers I’ll head to Social Brew in Burleigh.

We’ve got some top local markets ... what’s on your shopping list?

Sunday morning farmers’ markets at the Arts Centre for a truckload of kale and other green veggies. Really depends on my mood for the week, but I’ll buy a lot of different veggies for prepping with chickpeas.

Where do you go for a workout?

I go to hot yoga nearly every day at Fire Shaper in Bundall.

Your favourite place to see live music?

This is one thing I feel the GC needs more of. I work with a lot of bands, so I see some great talent come through to Broadbeach Tavern on a Sunday night. That would have to be my favourite as it’s all family.

Where do you take visitors when you want to show off the Gold Coast?

I have a secret cove beach past Byron Bay. Last time I went we were the only people there.
