Crowd-pleasers drink with fans
PORTISHEAD fans may spot band members chilling with the crowd and enjoying the music before their closing gig at the touring Harvest festival in Brisbane on Saturday. ‘‘It’s one of those festivals where you’ll see the musos from the bands out and about in the crowd enjoying a beer. This isn’t one of those big corporate gigs. You won’t see us flying in a chopper and getting the first Mercedes out,’’ says Geoff Barrow, part of the seminal 1990 UK triphop group with Beth Gibbons and Adrian Utley. Portishead have been playing songs from their three albums, Dummy, Portishead and Third, in Melbourne, Sydney (both for Harvest), Adelaide and Perth ahead of Brisbane. Band members take a break after completing their first Australian tour in 14 years before they head into a new studio to start work on album No.4. ‘‘There’s nothing down and no, we haven’t even started writing yet,’’ Barrow laughs.
