Gillard’s a good sport

COMIC actress Amanda Bishop is glad Julia Gillard is too busy doing her job to meet her, even though she’d like to shake hands with the prime minister. ‘‘I’m actually pleased that she’s too busy running the country to meet an actor who’s spoofing her,’’ she laughs. ‘‘I think her priorities are just right.’’ But Bishop (pictured) says she’s also pleased that the prime minister wasn’t offended by the ABC comedy series At Home with Julia. ‘‘I’m thrilled she was such a good sport about the show,’’ she says. ‘‘She has such a good sense of humour.’’ The four-part series also managed to get a mention or two in Federal Parliament with many politicians outraged that the office of the prime minister would be mocked. But Bishop says she’s just happy that the show got a mention. ‘‘They talk about a lot of other things in Parliament so if creative arts makes it into Parliament I’m nothing but proud,’’ she says.

At Home With Julia is out on DVD today
