Farewell to feel­good re­al­ity show, well al­most

AMER­ICA’S ABC net­work has can­celled Ex­treme Makeover: Home Edi­tion af­ter nine sea­sons. The se­ries, hosted by Ty Pen­ning­ton (pic­tured), de­buted in De­cem­ber 2003 and fea­tured a team of de­sign­ers and con­trac­tors re­build­ing homes, com­mu­nity cen­tres and schools for those in need. ‘‘Dur­ing its run, the quin­tes­sen­tial feel­good re­al­ity show trans­formed the lives of thou­sands of de­serv­ing fam­i­lies and gal­vanised com­mu­ni­ties and busi­nesses to help their neigh­bours in need,’’ the net­work says in a state­ment. The sto­ries at­tracted a mas­sive fol­low­ing and celebrity guests in­clud­ing First Lady Michelle Obama and Kim Kar­dashian. Though the show will no longer air each week, the net­work has not com­pletely said good­bye. It plans to air four Ex­treme Makeover: Home Edi­tion spe­cial episodes af­ter the sea­son’s end on Jan­uary 13.
