Spreading the spirit
PETER and Jean Ridley (pictured) are Salvation Army chaplains of 30 years, including six as missionaries in Papua New Guinea. Now based in Moree in northwest NSW, they love their annual Christmas mission. That’s when they hook up their caravan and spend a couple of weeks visiting small outback towns, bearing gifts and toys donated by big businesses and community groups. They attend Christmas parties, carols, then visit farmers and people in need to listen and chat. Many people in the bush still struggle with the legacy of the worst drought in living memory. Compass joined their outback odyssey to capture the spirit of their extraordinary bush Christmas mission.
