Single mum Holly Hunter returns to the family fold for Thanksgiving holiday and is suddenly awash in eccentric relatives. Barbed, funny comedy directed by Jodie Foster will make you chuckle. Retirees have a close encounter with some amiable aliens who turn their swimming pool into a fountain of youth, leading to adventures both comic and profound. Oscarwinning performance by Jamie Foxx as ‘‘The Genius’’ Ray Charles elevates this otherwise undistinguished biography of a musical legend. If you enjoyed Charles’ music, this is a must. A Carol Christmas 1.35am, Nine, NBN ★ PG. 2003. Tori Spelling as Scrooge? Spare us. This time the miser is a selfobsessed trash TV talk host who is redeemed by the three ghosts. As bad as finding Tori’s Greatest Hits in your Christmas stocking.
