The Fifth Element 7.30pm, Showtime Action ★★★ PG. 1997. From French cult director Luc Besson comes this sci-fi adventure about 23rdcentury cab driver, Bruce Willis, who joins forces with the mysterious young Milla Jovovich to save the world from an evil force. This genuine sci-fi classic is thrilling, funny, visually groundbreaking and features scene-stealing turns by Gary Oldman and Chris Tucker. Material Girls 7.30pm, Eleven ★★ PG. 2006. When their dad’s company – the source of their funds to buy designer everything – goes down the gurgler, Duff twins Hilary and Haylie leap into action to find out who’s responsible. Do you care? Unless you’re under 14, you don’t. Immaterial nonsense. Moulin Rouge 8.30pm, Ten, Ten SC ★★ M. 2001. Extravagant, kitsch, highly visual musical set in the Montmartre nightclub of Moulin Rouge in the late 19th century. Director Baz Luhrman goes way over the top in a film loved by some and reviled by others. It comes at you like an express train but is inescapably self-indulgent. Nicole Kidman, Ewan Mcgregor. The Host 9.30pm, SBS TWO ★★★ M. 2006. Quirky Korean film about a monster that invades a waterfront area of Seoul, wreaking havoc. When it grabs a stall owner’s daughter however, it brings down the wrath of dad, mum and whole family. Half comedy, half horror and different from stock Hollywood creature features. Song Kang-ho, Bae Doo-na.
