GRIMM is a new drama series inspired by the classic Grimms’ fairytales. The series, headed David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf, former bigwigs on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, follows the adventures of Portland homicide detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli, pictured), who discovers he is descended from an elite line of criminal profilers known as Grimms, charged with keeping peace between humanity and the mythological creatures of the world. The show’s creators take their inspiration where they find it. ‘‘We’re taking little bits and pieces from a lot of fairytales,’’ Kouf tells zap2it.com. ‘‘So you may not actually recognise the fairytale we’re drawing from because some are not that well known . . .We’ll (also) take a story from the headlines and give it a fairytale-like twist.’’

Grimm: Wednesdays, 7.30pm, Fox8
