The Pas­sion­ate Stranger Noon, Gem ★★★ PG. 1957. Nov­el­ist Mar­garet Leighton draws her char­ac­ters from real life and, when she makes her chauf­feur the ro­man­tic lead, he reads it and as­sumes she’s in love with him. Amus­ing con­fec­tion is en­hanced by all the char­ac­ters hav­ing two lives – one real and the other as a char­ac­ter in the novel. Ralph Richard­son. Rocky 4pm, Go! ★★★ PG. 1976. Phe­nom­e­nally suc­cess­ful box­ing drama about a washed-up pugilist who gets a shot at the ti­tle. Sen­ti­ment over­comes be­lief as the punched-out Sylvester Stal­lone wins hearts but loses on a tech­ni­cal­ity, lead­ing to count­less se­quels, and a sur­prise Best Pic­ture Os­car. Talia Shire. Ali G In­da­house 9.25pm, Show­time Com­edy ★★ MA. 2002. Sacha Baron Co­hen’s white boy in da ’hood is conned by a schem­ing MP into run­ning for pol­i­tics, but has the last laugh when his ‘‘keep it real’’ cam­paign gets the vote and wins a heart. This fea­ture-length ver­sion of the cult TV se­ries show­cased the tal­ents of the cre­ator of char­ac­ters that in­clude Bo­rat and Bruno. Jaw­breaker 9.30pm, Go! ★★ M. 1999. The school prom queen is ac­ci­den­tally killed by three friends, who cre­ate an out­landish plot to get rid of the body. They are dis­cov­ered by the school nerd, who de­mands a beauty and pop­u­lar­ity makeover in re­turn for her si­lence. Bizarre teen com­edy is more jaw­drop­per than jaw­breaker. Rose Mc­gowan.
