Novelist Margaret Leighton draws her characters from real life and, when she makes her chauffeur the romantic lead, he reads it and assumes she’s in love with him. Amusing confection is enhanced by all the characters having two lives – one real and the other as a character in the novel. Ralph Richardson. Rocky 4pm, Go! ★★★ PG. 1976. Phenomenally successful boxing drama about a washed-up pugilist who gets a shot at the title. Sentiment overcomes belief as the punched-out Sylvester Stallone wins hearts but loses on a technicality, leading to countless sequels, and a surprise Best Picture Oscar. Talia Shire. Sacha Baron Cohen’s white boy in da ’hood is conned by a scheming MP into running for politics, but has the last laugh when his ‘‘keep it real’’ campaign gets the vote and wins a heart. This feature-length version of the cult TV series showcased the talents of the creator of characters that include Borat and Bruno. Jawbreaker 9.30pm, Go! ★★ M. 1999. The school prom queen is accidentally killed by three friends, who create an outlandish plot to get rid of the body. They are discovered by the school nerd, who demands a beauty and popularity makeover in return for her silence. Bizarre teen comedy is more jawdropper than jawbreaker. Rose Mcgowan.
