The Invasion 9.30pm, Go! ★★★ M. 2007. Journeyman version of The Invasion of the Body Snatchers is no match for the original, but still makes you shiver at the prospect of aliens taking over the human race. Psychiatrist Nicole Kidman and pal Daniel Craig wake up to the plot as their friends drift into zombielike states. The fate of the world rests on their shoulders. Still a great yarn. The Promise 9.30pm, SBS TWO ★★ M. 2006. Hyperactive martial arts mishmash about a princess incapable of love, flying fairies, gravity-defying fighters and huge set-piece battle sequences. An unholy coupling of Chinese cinema and video games, it defies rational narrative but every cent of the $44 million budget can be seen on screen. Big, bold and brash. Casino 9.40pm, Showtime Drama ★★★ MA. 1995. Martin Scorsese directs Robert De Niro as a successful Las Vegas casino owner. Now if only he could rein in his giddy wife Sharon Stone and mate Joe Pesci. Epic about money, sex and brute force is a grandly conceived study of what happens when goodfellas from the mean streets outstrip their wildest dreams. Hit the Road 11.05pm, SBS ONE ★ M. 2008. Mariana Loureiro, pursued by creeps, meets wheelchairbound Fele Martinez, on his own quest to recover some stolen property. They take off in his ute and elevate the art of bickering to a new level. Brazilian road movie suffers from dizzying cinematic tics and two of the least likable characters on film.
