CLAS­SIC thriller Psy­cho is set for a pre­quel TV se­ries. The A&E net­work show, ti­tled Bates

Mo­tel, will give view­ers ‘‘an in­ti­mate un­der­stand­ing of how Nor­man Bates’ psy­che de­vel­oped from his child­hood through his teen years’’, says the net­work in a state­ment. It con­tin­ues: ‘‘Fans will have ac­cess to the dark, twisted back story and learn first hand how his mother, Norma, and her lover dam­aged Nor­man, help­ing forge the most well-known se­rial killing mo­tel owner in his­tory.’’ The clas­sic tale has hit the big screen twice – An­thony Perkins (pic­tured) played Bates in Al­fred Hitch­cock’s 1960 movie, while Vince Vaughn took on the mur­derer in the much­ma­ligned 1998 Psy­cho re­make.
