actress Essie Davis (pictured) and her pearl-handled pistoltoting lady detective Phryne Fisher are going global in a deal sealed at Cannes television festival MIPTV. All3media International has closed deals to show the Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries in Russia, Denmark, Sweden and Brazil, website C21 Media reports. The Australian period crime drama, adapted from the books by Kerry Greenwood, follows a female sleuth who, armed with a dagger-sharp wit, solves murders in back streets, jazz clubs and mansions during the 1920s. A second season of 13 episodes is in development. ‘‘The Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries leapt out – it’s so distinctively stylish, sumptuous even, and full of charm,’’ All3media’s head of acquisitions Maartje Horchner says. ‘‘The central character is so engaging, with more than a hint of irreverence.’’
