Ten re­vis­its Australia’s com­ing-of-age clas­sic with brand new se­ries

ASH­LEIGH Cum­mings and Brenna Hard­ing will play leads Deb­bie and Sue in a new se­ries of Pu­berty Blues. The 1970’s novel, penned by Gabrielle Carey and Kathy Lette, fol­lows the mis­ad­ven­tures of two 13-year-old girls from the Suther­land Shire, in Syd­ney’s south. The book, no­to­ri­ous for its ex­plicit depic­tion of un­der­age sex and drug-tak­ing within the ‘‘sur­fie’’ cul­ture, was made into a film star­ring Nell Schofield and Jad Capelja in 1981.

As a new eight-part com­ing-of-age TV se­ries for Chan­nel 10, the cast in­cludes Clau­dia Kar­van, Jeremy Lind­say Tay­lor, Susie Porter, Dan Wyl­lie, Su­san Prior and Rodger Corser.

Pro­duced by South­ern Star pro­ducer John Ed­wards and Off­spring cre­ator Imo­gen Banks, it starts film­ing on April 10.

Cum­mings, a new­comer, im­pressed in the the re­cent Miss Fisher’s Mur­der Mys­ter­ies. Hard­ing ap­peared in Packed to the Rafters.
