Ten revisits Australia’s coming-of-age classic with brand new series
ASHLEIGH Cummings and Brenna Harding will play leads Debbie and Sue in a new series of Puberty Blues. The 1970’s novel, penned by Gabrielle Carey and Kathy Lette, follows the misadventures of two 13-year-old girls from the Sutherland Shire, in Sydney’s south. The book, notorious for its explicit depiction of underage sex and drug-taking within the ‘‘surfie’’ culture, was made into a film starring Nell Schofield and Jad Capelja in 1981.
As a new eight-part coming-of-age TV series for Channel 10, the cast includes Claudia Karvan, Jeremy Lindsay Taylor, Susie Porter, Dan Wyllie, Susan Prior and Rodger Corser.
Produced by Southern Star producer John Edwards and Offspring creator Imogen Banks, it starts filming on April 10.
Cummings, a newcomer, impressed in the the recent Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. Harding appeared in Packed to the Rafters.
