award-winning documentary charting surfer Dave Rastovich’s personal odyssey from professional waverider to committed marine activist premieres to Gold Coast audiences at Komune in Coolangatta tomorrow night. Minds in the Water charts five years in the life of Rastovich and his friends as they work to protect dolphins, whales and the wider ocean. Shot at some of the world’s best surf spots and environmental hot spots in Australia, the Galapagos, Tonga, California, Alaska and Japan, the documentary backs its environmental message with cutting-edge surf and protest footage. ‘‘As ocean people, it is our privilege to be the custodians of our coastlines,’’ says Rastovich. ‘‘The film documents our attempt at fulfilling that role as we travelled to surfing locations around the world.’’
