LIKE to pitchfork yourself a real man? Get dirt under your nails as you dig for true love? If you prefer green acres to suburban Greenacres, then The Farmer Wants a Wife may just be cupid’s track to the bushman of your dreams.

For its eighth series, Channel 9 is searching for single ladies with romance on their minds to woo one of seven prime Aussie rural hunks.

Contestants must be aged over 18, genuinely looking for love and prepared to live on a farm for about 12 days of filming.

After producing five marriages and four babies in its five-year history, The Farmer Wants a Wife has successfully woven love and suspense into the classic dating game against the backdrop of the Australian outback. Matching boys from the bush with sheilas from the city has been the formula since the series started in 2007.

Hosted by Natalie Gruzlewski, the show’s next line-up features some fellas who should easily beckon some willing maidens. They include Irish Paul, 45, from Gnaraloo, Western Australia. He sleeps under the stars – his dream girl is dark and exotic. Action man Tom, 30, from Beeac in Victoria, is after commitment and kids – he wants to be a dad. And alors, there’s the French rugby-playing farmer Chris. So ladies, trade those stilettos for gumboots and throw your hat in to the ring.

Applications close Monday.

soon, Nine, NBN.
