Great po­ten­tial for com­edy plays for easy laughs as Grumpy Old Pres­i­dents meet Planes, Trains and Au­to­mo­biles. Lemmon and Garner are a de­light to­gether.

MA15+. 2009. Star­ring Val Kilmer, 50 Cent and Sharon Stone. A po­lice of­fi­cer’s part­ner dies dur­ing Hur­ri­cane Ka­t­rina, but he later dis­cov­ers his part­ner may have been mur­dered. An in­ves­ti­ga­tion fol­lows, tak­ing the of­fi­cer and his new part­ner into the depths of the crim­i­nal un­der­world. Strictly B-grade crime drama de­spite its A-list celebrity cast.

The Fa­ther Of My Chil­dren

SBS2, 9.30pm ½ M. 2009. Mak­ing movies can be a bru­tal busi­ness as is shown in this per­cep­tive French drama, fash­ioned on the life of French pro­ducer Hum­bert Bal­san. A loved and lov­ing fa­ther, Bal­san’s life slowly spins out of con­trol as he tries to fi­nance his lat­est pro­duc­tion, with scenes of fam­ily bliss in­ter­cut with those of des­per­ate phone calls and meet­ings. Com­pelling viewing. Chiara Caselli, Louis-do de Lenc­que­saing.
