Lively out to end Gossip
Gossip Girl: drama Gossip Girl’s upcoming sixth season will be its last. The teen show, based on author Cecily von Ziegesar’s book series of the same name, debuted in the US in 2007 and became a global phenomenon, making stars of its lead cast members Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Chace Crawford, Ed Westwick and Penn Badgley. But executives at The CW network, where the drama airs in US, say the program will draw to a close after a shortened 11-episode sixth season hits screens this year. The final storyline will revolve around Serena van der Woodsen, the unstable New York socialite played by Lively. The plot reads: ‘‘Serena has gone off the grid, beyond even the reach of Gossip Girl. Her friends fear for the worst and hope for the best but even they can’t imagine where they will ultimately find her.’’ Mondays 3pm (series five); weekdays 5.30am (series three), Fox8.
