1981 Dis­ney an­i­ma­tion clas­sic The Fox and The Hound is back on Gold Coast screens on Satur­day and Sun­day as part of the Dis­ney Clas­sic Film Fes­ti­val, which fea­tures limited runs of vin­tage Dis­ney fea­tures. In the film, the cute lit­tle fox and hound of the ti­tle be­come friends de­spite the out­side world’s in­sis­tence that they’re nat­u­ral en­e­mies. Loosely based on the Daniel P. Man­nix novel of the same name, the film was di­rected by Ted Ber­man and Richard Rich and fea­tures the voices of Kurt Rus­sell, Mickey Rooney, Pearl Bai­ley, Pat But­tram, Sandy Dun­can, Richard Bakalyan, Paul Winchell, Jack Al­bert­son, Jeanette Nolan, John Fiedler, John McIn­tire, Keith Coogan, and Corey Feld­man. At the time of re­lease, it was the most ex­pen­sive an­i­mated film pro­duced to date, cost­ing $12 mil­lion. Os­car-nom­i­nated writer and film­maker Tim Bur­ton ( Dark Shad­ows, Ed­ward Scis­sorhands, Beetle­juice, Bat­man For­ever, Corpse Bride) worked on the an­i­ma­tion for the film. The Dis­ney fes­ti­val ends next week­end (June 9-10) with screen­ings of Dumbo.
