This also gives her the chance to win pop­u­lar­ity, which evaded her. Bar­ry­more is a rev­e­la­tion and makes this perky com­edy far bet­ter than the story sug­gests it should be. PG. 2001. Beauty Char­l­ize Theron beds a se­ries of lovers, giv­ing each one a month of her favours be­fore mov­ing on to the next. Ex­ec­u­tive Keanu Reeves is Mr Novem­ber, but re­fuses to be dis­carded. Triv­ial tear­jerker, a re­make of a 1960s chick flick, sel­dom con­vinces, though Theron is breath­tak­ing.

Em­bit­tered so­cialite Char­lotte Ram­pling, at death’s door, is vis­ited at her Syd­ney res­i­dence by es­tranged ac­tor son Ge­of­frey Rush and daugh­ter Judy Davis, both anx­ious to in­herit her es­tate. Pa­trick White’s tale of ma­nip­u­la­tion and twisted fam­ily val­ues is brought to the screen by di­rec­tor Fred Schep­isi. 9.25pm, SBS ONE

M. 2010. Hu­man drama cen­tred around the dev­as­tat­ing earth­quake that lev­elled the Chi­nese city of Tang­shun in 1976. Her hus­band killed, wife Fu Xan then has to make the hor­ri­fy­ing choice of sav­ing her son or daugh­ter It was orig­i­nally pro­duced in IMAX and the money is up there on screen. Xu Fan.
