Bowler the new Burton
Bowler (pictured) has reportedly been cast opposite Lindsay Lohan in a TV biopic Liz & Dick. The New Zealandborn, Brisbanereared actor will play Richard Burton to Lohan’s Elizabeth Taylor, entertainment news website Deadline.com reports. The biopic for US cable network Lifetime looks at the enduring love story of the two acting greats. The movie’s executive producer, Larry A. Thompson, auditioned many actors for the role. ‘‘Grant will add gravitas to our couple and bring to life one of the greatest actors who has ever lived,’’ he says. Bowler was cast after he read with Lohan. ‘‘The chemistry erupted in the room,’’ says Thompson, who describes Taylor and Burton as ‘‘the first Hollywood royal couple, the first Brangelina’’. ‘‘Burton was a Welsh poet, a rascal, and a man’s man, who swept Elizabeth Taylor off her feet and flew her so close to the sun that they both exploded into stardust that still lights up Hollywood,’’ he says. Bowler, 43, is 18 years older than Lohan. There was a seven-year age gap between Burton and Taylor who married each other twice. They costarred in Cleopatra, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and The Taming of the Shrew. Bowler hosts Australian TV series The Amazing Race. His CV includes Australian TV series Blue Heelers, Stingers, McLeod’s Daughters and All Saints.
