M. 2007. The Sun is dying, threatening life on Earth. To reactivate it, scientists embark on a space mission to the Sun to launch nuclear missiles at its surface. Entertaining, intelligent sci-fi directed by Danny Boyle falls away in the final third, wandering into an ‘‘alien on board’’ theme, but for a while it’s pretty good. G. 1986. Lesser known John Hughes vehicle about growing up, hits the spot with great acting from Molly Ringwald as a wrongside-of-the-tracks teen romanced by socialite Andrew McCarthy. Should she or shouldn’t she venture out of her social depth? Harry Dean Stanton is a standout as her father haunted by his wife’s exit.
