Dance hope­ful still has a prayer

The dream is alive for Bol­ly­wood as­pi­rant Teigan Lloyd-evans, but she’s got some danc­ing to do

2007. Bra Boys are sur­fie out­siders, drawn from hous­ing com­mis­sion slums in the beach­side Sydney sub­urb of Maroubra. Fiercely ter­ri­to­rial, they were al­legedly in­volved in the Cronulla ri­ots. This rough­hewn doco, nar­rated by Rus­sell Crowe, talks about their ori­gins and cul­ture. But, like the boys them­selves, it doesn’t say much, so we don’t learn much. Kelly Slater.

1985. Teen Michael J. Fox dis­cov­ers pu­berty comes with an added worry – he turns into a were­wolf each full moon. One of the ben­e­fi­cial side ef­fects is he also be­comes top-notch bas­ket­ball player. But will no­to­ri­ety cost him friends and will he find true love? Tele­vi­sion favourite Rod Daniel di­rects. HE Gold Coast’s Teigan Lloyd-Evans has sur­vived to dance an­other day in the SBS TV tal­ent search Bol­ly­wood Star.

Lloyd-Evans, 23, con­tin­ues in the se­ries, which this week takes its fi­nal six to Mum­bai, the heart of the Bol­ly­wood film in­dus­try. Men­tor and judge Anu­pam Sharma re­veals they will have to im­press a new panel of judges at the end of the week, who will then de­ter­mine which two of the fi­nal­ists will be sent home to Aus­tralia.

The con­tes­tants un­dergo in­ten­sive act­ing and dance train­ing, ahead of the piv­otal pub­lic per­for­mance. Trained by two of their new judges, the fi­nal­ists are put through their paces and some strug­gle to keep up.

Later, they visit ND Stu­dios, where they meet Emma Brown Gar­rett, an Aussie ac­tress who lives the Bol­ly­wood dream.

Dur­ing the week, the fi­nal­ists are also con­fronted by the poverty they wit­ness on the streets of Mum­bai.

At week’s end, the six fight for their chance to stay in the com­pe­ti­tion by performing a group dance rou­tine, and act­ing be­fore an au­di­ence of lo­cals and the three dis­cern­ing judges.

This ex­plo­sive episode con­cludes as two con­tes­tants are elim­i­nated from the com­pe­ti­tion. Can Lloyd-Evans sur­vive the cut? Lloyd-Evans, who owes her ex­otic beauty to her Welsh, Dan­ish and Aussie an­ces­try, has stud­ied bal­let, tap and jazz danc­ing. Her mum in­tro­duced her to the won­der­ful world of Bol­ly­wood.

Bol­ly­wood Star filmed in Aus­tralia late last year. The fi­nal four win the chance to au­di­tion for Bol­ly­wood direc­tor Ma­hesh Bhat­t­role in a Bol­ly­wood film. The win­ner lands a role.
