250 local performers aged between seven and 30 will grace one stage tonight for the Aerial Angels Academy and Ikin Dance’s Spectacular show. The onenight-only production will feature themed dances, sports aerobics, cheerleading, acrobatics, trapeze, aerial shows and vocal performers. Sue Porrett, of Aerial Angels Academy, says Spectacular is the result of 12 months of hard work. ‘‘These students are the future of the entertainment industry. This is a showcase of how far they have come in a year. We are filling backstage to the brim with Gold Coast talent. A lot of people don’t realise we have so much talent here.’’ Spectacular made its sold-out debut at the Arts Centre last year, and Porrett says she and Anthony Ikin are hoping to take the show to new heights in 2013. ‘‘We want it to be a yearly event. Next year we will do two days of shows,’’ she says. ‘‘We are thinking of taking the show on the road, maybe to Brisbane. It’s of that size and style to make it good enough to play in other locations.’’ Porrett says there will be a few surprises in tonight’s show. ‘‘There are a lot of scenes from different countries. There’s French can-can, Bollywood and Oriental,’’ she says. ‘‘There will be lots of ‘wows’. We have some world champions in the mix as well as special guest stars from So You Think You Can Dance.’’
The Aerial Angels Academy and Ikin Dance plays The Arts Centre tonight at 7pm. Tickets are $38.50.
