Parr plans to mix it up
Muay Thai fighter John Wayne Parr steps out of the ring and into the cage for his final fight. The 36-year-old Gold Coaster has won nine world titles and plans to revinent the sport when he fights New Zealand’s Jordan Tai at Southport Sharks on Saturday. The Boonchu Cup involves Muay Thai rules in a mixed martial arts (MMA) style cage. Parr, who plans to become a cage Muay Thai, wanted to compete in an MMA fight to see what it was like but reconsidered when he broke a finger at his first jujitsu class in February. Parr says his body told him it was time to retire. He broke his write in July, rebroke it at his most recent fight in November and broke his finger in February.
