Rancics are set for season six
It’s been a long rough road in real life, but baby on the way means some good news for viewers at last, writes
CONFRONTING breast cancer, having a miscarriage and engaging a surrogate mother to have their first child, high-profile couple Bill and Giuliana Rancic have had more real-life dramas than a well-scripted soapie.
It’s made their life compelling viewing for reality junkies who can latch on to the fifth season of their not-soprivate lives in Giuliana and Bill, which premieres on pay-TV’s Style channel on Monday.
Rancic says the road humps they have faced in life are no different to everyday couples’ and they have never shied from being open and honest about their relationship and their private issues on the show.
‘‘We tackle issues that a lot of couples face and most people wouldn’t talk about, whether it’s fertility or issues with Giuliana’s health,’’ Bill says. ‘‘That’s life though; you don’t know what the hell you are going to be dealt.
‘‘We’ve been able to turn our negative situations into positive ones, and when we were going through it we hope that we have inspired people.’’
When the couple was first approached to be in a reality series, they made a pact that it would be a clean, wholesome and positive show and they have stayed true to their word.
It’s meant five strong-rating seasons in the US with a sixth almost certain, given the pair are expecting a boy later this year.
What the couple could not have envisaged were the serious personal health dramas that they faced and how that alone has overcome the sensationalism of other reality shows.
‘‘If you look at 99 per cent of reality shows today . . . they’re about horrible relationships, drug abuse, alcoholism and physical abuse,’’ Rancic says.
‘‘Our show has none of that and we still manage to get good ratings.
‘‘We are talking about it (a sixth season) right now and we have a baby coming. The viewers have waited five seasons for some good news and I can’t imagine not doing at least one more season.’’
In between shooting their reality show, Bill and Giuliana Rancic are buried in their careers.
They both present shows in the US and soon they’ll be working together as the co-hosts of the dating reality show Ready For Love, on which Eva Longoria is an executive producer.
‘‘We need a little break (from Giuliana and Bill) and this suits,’’ Rancic says.
