Wizz heads back to Oz

The Gold Coast Bulletin - Play Magazine - - SHOWS -

Wizz (right) brings the catalogue and charisma of the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, to life on stage in the elaborate revamped tribute show HIStory: This Is It II. Backed by a live band, dancers, authentic costumes and slick production, Wizz brings the musical biography and celebration of Jackson’s life from Las Vegas to Twin Towns in August after a soldout show at The Arts Centre Gold Coast last year. The show, which also stars Jackson’s original female guitarist, Jennifer Batten, sees Wizz recreate a Jackson concert experience, performing more than 20 of the star’s biggest hits. ‘‘I don’t live my life as Michael Jackson,’’ Wizz says. ‘‘It’s a character and a role that I play.’’ Wizz says he’s stepped up the intensity of his shows since Jackson’s death. ‘‘It’s more difficult because my act is observed through a microscope (by fans) now he’s gone,’’ he says. ‘‘People want the closest thing possible.’’ plays Twin Towns on August 3-4 at 8.30pm. Tickets are $51.
