It’s a circus with a twist

The Gold Coast Bulletin - Play Magazine - - WHAT’S ON -

DARING, breathtaking and cheeky, Circa is a new kind of circus on a mission to move the heart, mind and soul. Fresh from an eightmonth residency in Berlin, the Brisbane company and show Circa is back in Australia between international tours for a limited run, which includes a show at The Arts Centre Gold Coast on Tuesday at 7.30pm. Circa’s brand of vaudevillian circus bills itself as ‘‘the exact opposite of Cirque du Soleil’’. The show incorporates high-energy sound and innovative projections with acrobatics. Artistic director Yaron Lifschitz says the company, featuring 16 performers and three globetrotting branches, is renowned for its ‘‘emotional integrity’’. He says its touring show is ‘‘subtly but particularly Australian’’ in keeping with Circa’s mix of adventure with a cabaret twist and larrikin flair.
