Block heads blitz hero’s home
Keep the tissues handy for this special edition of Nine’s blockbuster ratings show
IT seems Channel 9 is not prepared to say farewell to its blockbuster ratings hit The Block just yet. Indeed, Block host Scott Cam and all the contestants from the hit property series will be back this weekend for a special event episode of Domestic Blitz.
The special re-teams Block host Scott Cam with Blitz host Jamie Durie – the pair worked on the Channel 9 hit Backyard Blitz before Durie moved to Channel 7.
The pair oversee returning contestants from The Block to stage a house and garden makeover to honour a community hero, the late Michael Wilson. The paramedic lost his life south of Sydney on Christmas Eve, 2011, when his winch line snapped during a helicopter rescue of two injured canyoners.
Wilson’s widow Kellie and three children, Eliza, 15, Grace 12 and Hugo, 6, receive the surprise of their lives when Cam and Durie announce all four Block couples will pitch in to give their home a makeover.
The Block’s winners Brad Cranfield and Lara Welham, runners-up Dan Reilly and Dani Wales, brothers Mike and Andrew Jones and newlyweds Dale and Sophie Vine are arranged into new pairings to work on different rooms in the house. They have just four days to transform the Wilson home.
Also joining in to help are The Voice runner-up Darren Percival, cricket legend Michael Slater and the first MasterChef Australia winner Julie Goodwin. How will it all end? You’ll have to turn on to find out. Here’s a warning, though: Keep a box of tissues handy.
Sunday, 6.30pm, Nine, NBN.
