Donovan says he’s yet to speak with Kylie Minogue about their reunion and duet for next month’s nostalgic Stock, Aitken and Waterman Hit Factory concert in London. Donovan (pictured), who is in Australia filming Channel 10’s reality talent search I Will Survive, says he will start thinking about his appearance at Hit Factory when he returns to the UK this week. The 44-year-old and Minogue are among the headline acts for the Hyde Park concert of artists who had hits under Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Peter Waterman. The trio wrote and produced Donovan and Minogue’s 1988 pop hit Especially For You, which reached No.1 in the UK and several other European countries and was No.2 in Australia. Also appearing at the concert on Wednesday are Rick Astley, Bananarama and Dead or Alive. Donovan says it should only take a couple of hours of rehearsals with Minogue in London to nail the song, which will be the first time they have performed it live for almost 25 years. ‘‘No (I haven’t spoken to her), at all,’’ Donovan says. ‘‘Once I get back to the UK I will sink myself into all that but I haven’t got my head around it just yet. We’ll have a rehearsal and we’ll just do it.’’ At the time the song appeared on the UK charts Donovan and Minogue were in the process of carving out music careers in the UK, following from their popularity on the Aussie soapie Neighbours. Their TV wedding on Neighbours was watched by an estimated 20 million viewers, giving them an instant fan base to draw on. ‘‘It was a song for a lot of people and it means a lot of things – and it certainly changed my life,’’ Donovan says. ‘‘The day is going to be special and it’s not because of Especially For You, it’s about Stock, Aitken and Waterman who were incredible producers. It’s a celebration of their music and it’s obviously punctuated with the fact Kylie and I are going to do a duet after many, many years.’’ Donovan says he was privileged to be a part of the stable of artists Stock, Aitken and Waterman hoisted to fame. He says he would be a lot richer if he had their songwriting talents.
