It’s alright, Bieber will be back
Star tells hysterical fans he will return to Australia, writes
THROUGH the screams and tears came the news every Justin Bieber fan wanted to hear – he will be back in Australia next year as part of his Believe world tour.
While exact dates are to be confirmed, the teen music star used a secret acoustic show for pay TV music network Channel [V] at Sydney’s Fox Studios this week to announce his return.
‘‘It’s been over a year since I’ve been here, right. Did you miss me? I just want to let you know that everything’s going to be all right,’’ he teased before breaking into the song Be Alright.
Bieber later confirmed he would be ‘‘coming back in under a year’’ for a full national tour as he declared his love for all his ‘‘Belieber’’ fans in Australia.
Taking to the stage in a cut-off denim jacket and black jeans, Bieber performed a seven-song set of past and future hits, accompanied by a lone guitarist. The crowd of mainly teenage girls shrieked along to his every wink and smile but silenced their screams long enough to sing along to his massive hit Baby.
The rest were from Bieber’s new album Believe, with the singer in fine voice – even showcasing his rap skills on As Long As You Love Me.
Fans arriving at the concert in specially organised buses were banned from revealing the venue location to their friends, amid security fears.
Some youngsters left in tears, including 16-year-old Yasmine Baddah, who said the ‘‘perfect’’ show would never be bettered in her lifetime.
‘‘Photos don’t do him justice and to see Justin in the flesh was perfect,’’ she says. ‘‘He winked at me at one point and I couldn’t help crying when he played Catching Feelings.’’
Bieber spent much of the day bouncing between radio and TV interviews while outwitting an army of diehard fans glued to Twitter.
Hundreds of hopefuls gathered outside the Darling Hotel at Star Casino, where he is rumoured to be staying with girlfriend Selena Gomez.
Security has been tightened around the singer to avoid a repeat of his 2010 trip, when thousands of fans forced the cancellation of a free show.
Bieber returned to the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay to perform on the Sunrise TV program on Wednesday morning. Unlike last time, however, the event was ticketed.
Friday, 7.30pm, Channel [V] and Hot30 Countdown.
